The Co‑operative Debate

Corporate information, Events

The subject matter of our final Congress session on Saturday has been set by our members and will provide an opportunity for delegates to get involved debating issues of contemporary significance to the sector.

Debates will be held during the plenary session on Saturday afternoon on the following topics:

  • Image of debate at Congress 2008A place for a strong independent retail sector
  • A co-ordinated co‑operative response to climate change
  • Development of a co‑operative fortnight
  • Building links between the co‑operative and trade union movements

To download leaflet giving more information about the topics that we will be debating please click here.

Each subject will be debated for no more than 30 minutes before delegates are invited to vote for or against each proposition. At the end of all the debates, delegates will be asked to rank the proposal. The proposal receiving the highest ranking will then be featured in the Autumn edition of Co‑operatives magazine. This is sure to be a fascinating and thought provoking session - definitely not to be missed.

People are encouraged to indicate their intention to contribute in advance of the debate using the form below. In the event of more than five contributors, contributions shall be limited to one per member.
