Not only do co‑operative enterprises make an important contribution to the economy of London, they offer a business model based on wider values and principles. Agreed by the International Co‑operative Alliance, these include honesty, concern for the community and democratic decision making.

Working in partnership with Co‑operatives^UK, Co‑operatives London is a co‑operative organisation in its own right. It is in its infancy and is currently being led by a Steering Group, with the support of Co‑operatives UK, the 'umbrella' organisation for the Co‑operative Movement.

The key aims of Co‑operatives London are:

• represent and promote co‑operative values and principles.
• raise the profile of the co‑operative sector in the region.
• represent the co‑operative sector within regional forums and regional media.
• develop services to members that will assist them to develop as co‑operatives, sustainable enterprises and contributors to the well-being of communities in the region.
• involve members and potential members in the wider Co‑operative Movement and in particular in active membership of Co‑operatives^UK.
• build partnerships, structures and arrangements with organisations with similar objectives.

As part of the wider social enterprise (or third) sector, Co‑operatives London will be directly engaged in working with partners in the region for mutual benefit.
