Members' Briefing

MARCH 2010
Dear Member,
As 2010 is now well underway, co‑operatives are not only hitting the news headlines in the run up to the general election, but we are also progressing plans for the first-ever Co‑operatives Fortnight and looking forward to Co‑operatives 2010!
We have confirmed sponsors and a Communications Director to co-ordinate the fortnight, and what we need now is for you to get involved! Please see our lead story and together lets make the first-ever Co‑operatives Fortnight something to remember!
You may have noticed co‑operation seems to be the buzzword at the moment, with both the Conservatives and Labour showing their support for co‑operation over the past month.
It is great that the sector is getting such interest but, following David Cameron’s announcement about public sector workers forming co‑operatives, David Coulter, said: “Like any new policy the devil is in the detail and how this would actually work is what will be crucial to its success. If it is imposed on public sector workers from above, it won't work. Or if it is seen as an attempt to get public services on the cheap, it won't work."
It will certainly be something to keep an eye on in the next few months...
