The Co‑operative UK 100
In October 2006 the International Co‑operative Alliance (ICA) published a global listing of the world's top 300 co‑operative and mutual businesses. This initiative demonstrated that the top 300 co‑operative and mutual buinesses shared a turnover of approximately $1,000 billion (USD) in 2004. By way of comparison, Canada, the world's ninth largest economy, had a Gross Domestic Product of $979 billion (USD). You can find out more about the Global 300 at www.global300.coop.
Taking a cue from from the ICA's work, we published a listing of the UK's top 100 co‑operatives ranked by turnover reported in 2005. The listing was a "starter for ten" - an invitation to the co‑operatives in the list to work with us to produce, in future years, a ranking based upon other measures of performance.
