Co‑operative Excellence 2009

The national awards recognising excellence in co‑operatives
The inaugural Co‑operative Excellence awards have been presented to five outstanding co‑operative enterprises at Co‑operatives 2009.
For the first time, awards have been made to celebrate the important contribution made by pioneering co‑operatives to the success and dynamism of today’s co‑operative movement. Over 40 nominations were received and awards were made in five categories. The winners - chosen by an independent judging panel - were:
Dulas Limited, Improvement in Commercial Performance
- The Co‑operative Farms, Innovation in Co‑operative Business
- FC United of Manchester, Promotion of Co‑operative Values and Principles
- Anglia Farmers, Returning Value to Members
- The Phone Co‑op, Reporting Standards
Speaking at the ceremony at Co‑operatives 2009, Chair of Co‑operativesUK Ben Reid said:
“It is rewarding to be able to congratulate these ground-breaking co‑operatives for their demonstration of co‑operative excellence. Each one has made an impact and they all truly deserve this recognition. Without these pioneers, the co‑operative movement wouldn’t be what it is today and the future of the sector wouldn’t be as bright as it is.”
Winners will also be put forward to the Global Awards for Co‑operative Excellence, to be awarded at the ICA General Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland in November 2009. See www.globalawards.coop for more information.
